Joint neutron beamtime at PTB

As a continuation of the beamtime in February, the set of commercial CRNS (Cosmic-Ray Neutron Sensing) sensors was irradiated again at the PTB Ion Accelerator Facility (PIAF) from 11 to 14 March 2024. This time, the sensors were exposed to different well-defined energies of "artificial" neutrons, and the systematic effects of these irradiations were studied in detail. In neutron metrology, the neutron reference fields are typically used to calibrate or characterise various neutron-sensitive instruments, such as neutron spectrometers, detectors, monitors and personal dosimeters.

On this occasion, partners from the following institutions took part in the experimental campaign: CIEMAT (Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (Centro de investigaciones energeticas, medioambientales y tecnologicas), Spain), CMI (Czech Metrology Institute (Český metrologický institut), Czech Republic), SMU (Slovak Institute of Metrology (Slovenský Metrologický Ústav), Slovakia) and UHEI (Heidelberg University (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg), Germany). This opportunity allowed for the exchange of ideas, mutual learning and strengthened collaboration between the different research teams.
