Second joint neutron beamtime at PTB

March 2024

Following the initial laboratory campaign in February 2024, the commercial cosmic-ray neutron sensing (CRNS) instruments were characterised again at the PTB Ion Accelerator Facility (PIAF) from 11 to 14 March 2024.

During this second campaign, the instruments were exposed to reference fields at several well-defined neutron energies. The measurements examined the energy dependence of their neutron responses and relevant systematic effects in detail. In neutron metrology, neutron reference fields are used to calibrate and characterise neutron-sensitive instruments such as spectrometers, detectors, monitors and personal dosemeters.

In addition to the host PTB team, researchers from the following SoMMet partners participated in the campaign:

The joint campaign enabled the teams to exchange technical expertise, learn from one another and strengthen their collaboration.
